Our Take on TJ Maxx Parent Company Data Theft Is the Worst Ever
TJX has been subject to a very sophisticated and deliberate attack, perhaps the most difficult attack to defend against. This case highlights the common scenario that though many companies have implemented security measures, few have implemented them effectively, and throughout their organization, mainly due to corporate governance and budgetary reasons.
Protection of data needs to be a top-down mandate where the attitude is positive. Rather than seeing security as a cost and burden, we need to change corporate guidance and educate users to understand and promote security measures as positive and enabling technologies. Only when entire organizations are willing to adopt and consider security as an integral part of their business, will they succeed in stemming the loss of data.
